You've got a nice point :). Every visitor counts to your website . Social networking like Twitter and Facebook are very important players to bring traffic to your website and be connected to other developers .The most important thing is to be consistent and update your info weekly.

Nice point about our players not being from one group or genre--I like that way of thinking about it and feel that to be true as well. Word of mouth (or the internet social versions) is still one of the best methods of finding out about things we are interested in. We tend to trust and value what our friends or people we respect play and will likely check out recommendations over something an anonymous blog posts about. That personal connection carries a lot of weight!

I'm interested to hear about your experience with BUNNI as well. I didn't realize you were so involved with that game. Are you part of that project or just a big fan / volunteer? I did play for a little bit and found it to be a very rich and fun little world but wasn't really my type of game in the long run. I only really have time for short games these days unfortunately.

It actually depends on the games too. Having a kind of recurring theme helps to build a faithful fans. Players are not one group, it is multiple diverse groups based on what they like-- which most time we can classify as genre. Our goal is to get certain groups hooked on us ;) .

I don't do much for my own titles beside telling friends here and there but for BUNNI, we setup forums, wiki, chat, twitter, to facebook app. You can find our twitter on: www.twitter.com/bunnigame while the facebook app on http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=106026396823

game wise, you could also make games that encourage people to express theirs view around the game. Interactive Art and story-based games (like rpg and point and click adventure) do well on here.

I took care of that ToG link Porter... ;)

Thanks for the Facebook friends suggest as there have been quite a few new fans added it would seem! I sent you an email regarding a few questions I had for you for what link you want me to recommend to my friends so once I get a response from you I will return the favor.

Don't be afraid to make "Tower of Greed" a backlink to my site, I promise I won't mind hehe.

I just suggested you to all 150+ friends, hopefully a couple join, every bit counts. I really wish there was a way to select all friends at once, manual clicking is no good. I'll suggest Indie Games to everyone as well, let me know when you guys are done suggesting prince porter.

Hey Colm, thanks! I took your suggestion and joined that <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Indie-Games/95650263103" rel="nofollow">Indie Games facebook</a> page. I read your <a href="http://blog.gambrinous.com/2009/10/07/you-should-be-making-a-premium-flash-game/" rel="nofollow">premium games post</a> over on MochiLand the other day and really found it quite informative.

Thanks for stopping by! I've added your blog to my personal RSS feed as it seems you have a lot of good content there.

Nice roundup. YouTube & Facebook are on my todo list too. Probably going to wait until I have more visual stuff to show from our first game in development

You should both join the 'Indie Games' group on facebook, and post links to your games to it:

Checked out your facebook page and became a fan.. ;) I'll have to look up your Twitter.

I'm game for cross promoting our pages to our friends too. It's worth it alone to get them to check out your game <a href="http://princeporter.com/241-Tower-of-Greed.html" rel="nofollow">Tower of Greed</a> which I love! ;)

As far as Twitter's effectiveness goes it doesn't seem to hurt anyway so I think I'll see how it turns out. As long as I can keep the work overhead low for all these tools it seems like a low risk thing to try out.

I have a fan page for facebook myself, check it out here,
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Prince-Porter/75659746242
We should add each other and suggest our pages to our friends. As for Youtube, haven't gotten into that at all yet, I'll keep it in mind though, can't hurt. I use Twitter a little bit, although I haven't noticed too much benefit from it, even with all my followers being gamers or something related.
